The project and in particular the team is supported by the Technical University of Vienna and in particular by Professor Dipl.-Ing. Dr.phil. Andrea Rieger-Jandl. She teaches and researches at the Institute for Art History, Building Research and Monument Preservation at the Faculty of Architecture at TU Vienna. She is also a founding and board member of 'Netzwerk Lehm' and 'Institut für vergleichende Architekturforschung (IVA)'. Andrea Rieger-Jandl's research focuses on comparative architectural research, especially on non-European architecture, vernacular architecture, building in a development context and socio-cultural processes of building. She supports and advises the team throughout the entire planning and construction phase.
The implementation is seen as a continuation of the diploma thesis of Dipl.-Ing. Constanze Walter.
NONGRE- between two worlds. Cultural center for children in Ghana
The partner organisation in Ghana, the NONGRE Crafts and Culture Foundation, is a long-established NGO that has been dedicated to promoting the education of children and young people for many years. In addition to education, raising awareness of one's own cultural traditions and promoting self-determination and self-empowerment among young people is a central concern of the Foundation. The organisation is under the leadership of Adombila Adugbire, who acts very professionally and the structures on site are thus fully established. TU Vienna has maintained close contacts with the NONGRE Foundation for five years and what is missing are suitable premises, after a makeshift shelter used so far collapsed during a storm two years ago. The implementation of a new centre is therefore urgently needed.
„The overall aim of this NGO is to bring about development and positive social change to the people and the communities where we operate e.g. basket weaving communities etc. We understand that, in the area of human development for rural communities in sub-Sahara Africa, the focus areas should be placed on education, cultural awareness, climate compensation, social innovation, women and youth empowerment through self-created initiatives.“ Nongre Craft And Culture Foundation
